  • Andere Basterretxea: ESR1

    Andere Basterretxea joined POLYMAT in September 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. She is doing a PhD woking on the preparation of Brönsted acid/base ionic liquids organocatalysts between the University of Basque Country (Spain) and University of Mons (Belgium). 

    Andere Basterretxea Gorostiza earned her BS in Biology from University of the Basque Country, Spain, and her Erasmus Mundus MSc in Marine Environment and Resources in the University of Bordeaux (France) and the University of Liège (Belgium). During that period, she obtained a Mediterranean Office for Youth scholarship that recognize academic excellence. She performed an internship in Histocell Tissue engineering (Spain), providing technical assistance in the development innovative biomaterials based on glycosaminoglycans. In 2014 she spent one year in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering of Yamagata University (Japan), where she worked in the synthesis of polymers and in the study of antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility of polymers.

  • Amaury Bossion: ESR 2

    Amaury Bossion joined POLYMAT in October 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD in the synthesis of isocyante-free polyurethanes in water from renewable sources using organocatalysis.

    Amaury Bossion was awarded in 2015 with the degree of «Engineer in Chemistry and Physics» with the specialization Polymers Engineering and Formulation from Bordeaux INP Graduate School of Chemistry, Biology and Physics (ENSCBP). He also earned his M.S. in Molecular and Macromolecular Chemistry from the University of Bordeaux, France in 2015. In 2014 he made a 5-month internship at the University of Auckland, New Zealand under the supervision of Dr. Jianyong Jin. He developed Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) using organic and aqueous Reversible Addition-Fragmentation chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization. His thesis work for his master's degree was carried out at the National Research Council of Canada in Boucherville, Canada under the supervision of Dr. Minh Tan Ton-That. He studied the hydrophobic treatment of alkali Kraft lignin by precipitation with different alkyl quaternary ammonium salts for use as filler in thermoplastics such as polypropylene, and investigated the effect of blending modified Kraft lignin and polypropylene on mechanical and thermal properties.

     

  • Coralie Jehanno: ESR 3

    Coralie Jehanno joined the University of Basque County in December 2015  as a PhD student under the guidance of Dr. Fernando Ruiperez and Haritz Sardon at the University of Basque Country and Prof. Adrew Dove at the University of Warwick as part of the European project SUSPOL. She is a recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship.

    She is working on the modelling and synthesizing of new organocatalysts. Her research topics are focused on the study of organic radicals’ properties for multiple applications including polymer recycling and catalysis.

    Coralie Jehanno earned her M. S. in Chemistry and Physics in 2015 from the graduate school of Chemistry, Biology and Physics (Bordeaux INP) in France. She obtained it with a specialization in Polymers science and chemical applications of Lipids.

    In 2014, she made a 5-month placement under the supervision of Pr. Rodionov in the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. She synthesized and characterized a library of amphiphilic block copolymers for catalytic applications using ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). This work led to a poster presented as the 2015 annual ACS meeting.

    In 2015, she realized her thesis work for her master’s degree at the research centre of Solaize (CReS) for the French petroleum group Total. She worked on innovative lubricant for automotive applications during 6 months.

  • Panagiotis Bexis: ESR 4

    Panagiotis Bexis joined University of Warwick in October 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD woking on the preparation of Funcional stereocomplexing poly(ester-carbonate)s between the University of Warwick (UK) and University of Mons (Belgium).

    Panagiotis graduated from the University of Athens with a BSc in Chemistry in 2013. During his degree, he conducted his diploma thesis research studying the copolymerisation behavior of 2-Vinyl Pyridine  and Oligo(Ethylene Glycol) Methyl Ether Methacrylates employing free radical polymerization procedures and high vacuum techniques working alongside Dr. Marinos Pitsikalis. He also completed his 4 month placement in the General State Chemical Laboratory in Athens working in the industrial raw materials division. In September 2014, he started his MSc by Research degree under the supervision of Professor Andrew Dove at the University of Warwick. His work is focused on thermally induced hyberbranching of polyesters and subsequent graft polymerisations for the synthesis of unimolecular core-shell particles.

     

  • Noe Fanjul Mosteirin: ESR 5

    Noe Fanjul Mosteirin joined Warwick University in October 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD woking on the synthesis and post-polymerization of degradable polymers for controlled release from microparticles between the University of Warwick (UK) and University of Basque Country (Spain).

    Noe was born and raised in Oviedo, Spain and graduated from the University of Oviedo in 2014 with BSc in chemistry. He subsequently undertook research under the supervision of Dr Vicente del Amo in the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry in the University of Oviedo between September 2013 and September 2015. His research was focused in asymmetric organocatalysis, with special emphasis in organocatalyzed reactions assisted by hydrogen bond; synthesis of new asymmetric organocatalysts based on steroids as well as study and measuring of association constant of supramolecular complexes.

  • Sethum Jimaja: ESR 6

    Sethum Jimaja joined Warwick in September 2016 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD woking on the preparation of Organocatalytic nanoreactors: Towards enzyme mimics for transesterification reactions between the University of Warwick (UK) and University of Bordeaux (France).

    Sètuhn was born in Switzerland where he did his BSc at the University of Geneva. He then moved to ETH Zürich for his MSc and did his master thesis in the group of Prof. A.D. Schlüter where his worked focused on the synthesis of polyphenylenes with Suzuki polycondensation. After his MSc, he undertook a 6 months internship at BASF SE (Ludwigshafen, Germany) where he worked on ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic carbonates. In 2016, he started his PhD  in the Dove group and the O’Reilly group as a joint student.

  • Sophiem Garmendia: ESR 7

    Sofiem Garmendia joined University of Bordeaux in November, 2015 as part of  the European Project SUSPOL, being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD in Micellar Catalysis mediated by Poly-(N-Heterocyclic Carbene)-based Nanoreactors between the University of Bordeaux (FR) and University of Warwick (UK).


    Sofiem was born in Tolosa, Spain. He earned her BS in Chemistry department from University of the Basque Country at Chemistry Faculty (San Sebastián) in September, 2013. He worked with superhydrophobic coatings based on polyurethane-siloxane copolymers in Polymat. He also earned  his Erasmus Mundus  in Polymer Chemistry from CERM at Université de Liège (BE) July, 2014, focusing his research in the preparation of carbon fillers based porous structures for electromagnetic shielding under the supervision of Prof. Christophe Detrembleur and Prof. Christine Jérôme. In 2015, he completed his M.Sc. in Polymat (University of the Basque Country) working on the Synthesis of organic radical contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging under the supervision of Dr. Haritz Sardon and Prof. David Mecerreyes.

  • Beste Orhan: ESR 8

    Beste Orhan joined University of Bordeaux in November, 2015 as part of  the European Project SUSPOL, being recipient  of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. She is doing a PhD in the Stereoselective organopolymerizations of nonpolar monomers and induced by N-Heterocyclic Carbenes between the University of Bordeaux (FR) and University of Mons (BE).

    Beste was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She earned her BS in Chemistry department from Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Yildiz Technical University (TR) in September, 2012. She worked with cyclodextrin/photoinitiators and their host/guest relation. She also earned  her M.S. in Physical Chemistry from Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences at Yildiz Technical University June, 2015. Her M. S research was related about Synthesis of Thıoxanthone Based Oligothiophene, Investigations of Their Photophysical and Electrochemical Properties.

  • Leila Mezzasalma: ESR 9

     Leila Mezzasalma joined the University of Mons in October 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL, being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. She is doing a PhD in the preparation of Lactide-based (co)polymers by ring-opening polymerization catalyzed by organic molecules inspired from nature in bulk under the co-supervision of Dr. Olivier Coulembier (University of Mons, Belgium) and Prof. Daniel Taton (University of Bordeaux, France).

    She earned her BSc from the University of Pau in Physics and Chemistry in 2013 and her MSc in Chemistry and Physico-Chemistry of materials specialized in Polymer in 2015. During her first year of Master she worked on the synthesis of functionalized poly(3-hexylthiophene) by Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymerization and by Alkyne-Azide «click chemistry» and the grafting onto ZnO nanoparticules. She published her first communication in Macromolecular Rapid Communications as second author under the supervision of Dr. Antoine Bousquet in the University of Pau. During the same year, she did a two-month internship in the laboratory of Pr. Adam Pron in Warsaw (Poland) and she worked on the synthesis of Diketopyrrolopyrrole-based semiconducting molecules for field effect transistor thin-film. Her thesis work for her master degree was carried out at the University of Pau under the supervision of Dr. Maud Save. She synthesized core@shell hybrid nanoparticles by surface-initiated nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP) of styrene in miniemulsion.

  • Jin Huang: ESR 10

    Jin HUANG joined University of Mons n October 2015 as part of the European project SUSPOL being recipient of the Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher fellowship. He is doing a PhD in the preparation of new (co)polymers from an organo-based CO2 valorization under the supervision of Dr. Olivier Coulembier (University Mons) and Prof. Dr. Andrew P. Dove (University of Warwick).

    Jin HUANG received his Master degree in material engineering in 2012 from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China. Then he moved to Zhejiang University, China and researched in the field of the post-modification of biocompatible and biodegradable materials. In 2014, he worked in the field of synthesizing supramolecular polymers in Prof. Robert Häner’s group, University of Bern (Unibe), Switzerland.  He has coauthored 4 scientific publications.
